Thank you for your interest in The Way You Aren’t. I hope you enjoy Krista and Brennan’s story.
The idea came to me while driving to work last summer. Yes, I spend my time concocting misadventures for my characters as I drive to work.
I was on the highway and glanced at the vehicle to my right and noticed one of those Best Buy Volkswagen Beetles speeding along beside me. Geek Squad was printed in large black bold letters on the door. Of course, a man was driving the car.
I remember thinking about the commercials for the Geek Squad and wondered why the geeks were always portrayed by men. Why couldn’t a woman have some of the same qualities, issues, and traits? The idea of a woman who never quite fit in took shape in my head. This character needed to be exceptional at her job, but had difficulty fitting the corporate image, and communicating with others. That’s how The Way You Aren’t found a place in my heart.
As I wrote Krista’s story, I realized that I’ve dealt with
similar situations where others felt they knew more than I did. Or believed they had the right to treat me
anyway they wanted. It made Krista’s
revenge on
